14K Gold Signature Hand Pendant with Ruby Drop
This signature pendant is of a hand with a ruffled sleeve holding a tear drop ruby. It was cast and altered from a retro piece from the 1930s. The natural pear shaped bezel set ruby drop was added to the design and measures 5 x 3 mm. The pendant weighs 4.9 grams and measures approximately 1/2 an inch wide and 1 3/4 inches long. Hand shaped jewelry first became fashionable during the 1830s and 1840s, but unlike the ancient hamsa charms worn as defense against the evil eye, the fashionable gloved hands that appeared as clasps on gold necklaces were about elegance and hand gesturing, not unlike voguing. Hand jewelry became popular again in the 1930s with the designs of Paul Flato, Surrealism in the art world, performative dance, and a
new-found interest in symbolic Egyptian Art with its exaggerated hand designs. This elegant hand charm is perhaps influenced by that resurgence.
Hands have always been indicators, silently speaking volumes with a simple move or form. Add this pendant to your pendant collection or gift to a friend for a touch of style. Ready to hang on a chain of you choice.
