14K Gold & Gold Fill Victorian Swallow Earrings with Garnets
A beautiful pair of Victorian era swallow earrings made of 14 karat yellow gold, as well as gold fill, with tear-drop shaped garnet gemstones. The gold surrounding the garnet and the wire of the earrings are both 14 karats; the bird form is gold fill. These bird earrings depict the classic Victorian motif and symbol of a small bird. In Victorian era language, the swallow is a tender creature, known as the bird that mates for life, making this the quintessential symbol of eternal love. This very romantic pair of earrings are stylized in form, with the bird having angel-like wings and a slender body. The Victorian era craft valued symbolism as well as elegance.
The earrings have hanging tear-shaped garnet gemstones that measure approximately 6 x 4 mm. The earrings weigh 1.9 grams. The bird with gemstone drop measures approximately 1 inch in length, and they are about 1/2 inch wide. The earrings are not marked but have been acid tested to 14KT gold. When worn the garnets have a gorgeous deep red wine color. They are a truly romantic pair of earrings, but subtle enough to wear everyday. The earrings are pierced backs and hook safely to close.
