Art Deco Platinum Topped Diamond and Sapphire Ring with 14K Gold Shank

$6,000.00

The spectacular design of this 14k gold and platinum ring is on the cusp of the Art Deco and Retro eras; the influence of both eras makes this ring bold and unique. The ring’s shape is a geometric dynamic swath—both rhythmic and ribbonlike. A large (1.15 carat) Old European cut diamond is the centerpiece of the ring, with a smaller diamond placed next to it. Below it, a row of channel set square-cut sapphires add L-shape delineation. The final layer, which makes the widest sweep across the ring, consists of 29 bead set Old European cut diamonds, placed so that the diamonds and bead settings create an encrustation.  The ring has a platinum top that emphasizes its crisp sparkle, and a 14k rose gold shank that brings a bit of softness and retro beauty to the piece.  Circa the 1930’s-1940’s.

The ring’s total carat weight is just over 4 carats of natural diamonds. All of the ring’s diamonds are Old European cuts. The large central diamond is K in color, VS2 in clarity, and measures 6.2 mm. The medium diamond is J,  VS2, and 4.1 mm. The 29 smaller diamonds are G-I in color, VS1 to SI1 in clarity, and range in size from 2-3 mm. The eight natural dark blue sapphires are square cut and measure 3.25 x 3.25 mm each, for a total sapphire carat weight of approximately 2 carats.

The top of the ring measures 15/16” x 1” at the widest end and 1/2” at the narrowest end. The ring shank is 1/2” wide. The ring weighs 9.9 grams. Unmarked, acid tests to be platinum and 14k.

The ring is a size 4.75. The ring could be sized up or down about half of a size, but due to the diamond settings in the ring top, we wouldn’t recommend sizing the ring any further than this.
