Etruscan Revival 14kt and 18kt Gold Earrings with Amethysts, circa 1880

$1,450

This is a gorgeous pair of Etruscan Revival yellow gold and amethyst earrings from the Victorian Era, circa 1880.

Etruscan revival jewelry rose to popularity with the people of of Victorian England. Inspired by the Etruscans, jewelers implemented the use of wirework, beading, filigree and granulation.

These lovely drop earrings are made of 14kt gold and 18kt gold. The earring’s bales are marked 14kt gold. Although the body of the earring is unmarked, I have acid-tested it as 18kt gold.

These stunning earrings are adorned with amethysts and decorated with zig-zag gold details all done by hand. Though these earrings are hollow they are incredibly sturdy and will not dent easily. They do have some minor dents, which is to be expected with the age of this piece. However, the imperfections are only minor and are not noticeable when worn. These earrings are approximately 3 inches long and hang approximately 2 1/2 inches from the ear. Each earring features four amethyst stones. There is one larger amethyst that is approximately 4.88 mm highlighted in each earring. The three smaller amethysts in each earring are approximately 3.65 mm. All amethysts are bezel set in 18kt gold. Together these earrings weigh approximately 6.20 grams.

These earrings would make an unforgettable gift or fabulous addition to your antique jewelry collection.
