Opal Crescent Moon 14K Gold Pin
A lovely turn of the century 14 karat yellow gold crescent moon pin with 5 opal gemstones. The pin measures 5/8 x 3/4 inches and weighs approximately 2.5 grams. Each opal is approximately 2.3mm in size. In Greek, opal or “opallios,” means “to see a change of color.” This seductive gemstone is truly spectacular in color and luminosity; the shifting violet, blues and green on the gemstones compliment the yellow gold beautifully. This pin is marked with the gold standard on the back and a maker's mark.
At the turn of the century, and into the Edwardian era the moon symbol was a popular subject for jewelry. The romantic moon is regarded as a symbol of spirituality, nature and the divine feminine. In the beginning of a romance the moon is often gifted as symbol of a desire for a "waxing" relationship. Opal is also the birthstone for the month of October. This ring makes a great gift for someone special, or between two lovers celebrating the 14th year of marriage, as opal is typically given as a symbolic gift at this time.
