Victorian 9K Gold Fly Pin or Brooch with Diamonds, Rubies, and Sapphire

$1,250.00

Perched in the center of this 9k gold brooch is a beautiful jewel encrusted Victorian fly. The fly has ruby eyes, a Rose Cut diamond as its thorax, and eight Rose Cut diamonds bead set into its wings. A pear shaped sapphire makes up the lower body, and two small legs extend from underneath the insect. The brooch is fashioned like a safety pin, made of square stock that tapers into a rounded shape at the bottom of the pin. Circa the 1880’s, this true Victorian gem makes any outfit look cool.

A fly makes for a unique piece of jewelry today—but it has been around as a motif for centuries and was often seen in Victorian jewelry. Flies were worn as a talisman against evil, and represent humility and perseverance. Associated with the phrase “a fly on the wall” it is a reminder that being curious, thoughtful, and observational is the key to wisdom.

The pin contains the maker’s mark “JG & S” and contains the English hallmark for 9k gold. The pin is 1.75” long and the fly measures 3/8” x 9/16”. The pin weighs 3.07 grams. The natural Rose Cut diamonds range in size from 3 mm to 1.5 mm.
