Victorian Era, Natural Deep Red Coral Beaded Brooch
This romantic brooch is composed of several small beaded pieces of fire-red, natural coral. It measures 1-3/4 inches by 1/2 an inch. The coral is all hand-bound together with wire and linked to an antique gold-plated brooch. This piece of jewelry dates back to the 1870's when coral was a much coveted and exotic item, exported from Italy all over Europe. In England in the early Victorian period, people wore coral beads in jewelry pieces, from charms to brooches, to earrings- it was the most desired natural gemstone, of organic origin. This piece is quite special- it is old but has been well taken care of. It has some noticeable hand made qualities, which make it even more special.
