Victorian Mourning Flower Hair Ring
This beautiful mourning ring is made of chestnut colored human hair. This ring fits a size 7 finger. There is some flexibility to the hair but the piece is delicate. Because this piece is old (dating to the 1880's) there is some wear to the woven hair piece. The band on the ring is decorated with a lovely little flower on top. The flower is approximately 1/2 an inch in diameter. The band has been created initially with some fabric to fit securely over the ring finger, and then hair has been woven around it. Mourning jewelry was popular in the Victorian era. When people did not have enough money to take photographs of their loved ones, or wanted tot remember a deceased family member, jewelry was often woven out of their hair. This lovely flower ring is a tender memento.
